Today in History
. Women in the Utah Territory win the right to vote. (1870)
. Abraham Lincoln's Birthday
President Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States.
"Honest Abe", as he was commonly known as, was born in the wilderness
country of Hardin County, Kentucky on February 12, 1809.
Abraham Lincoln became president in 1861. Although he hated war, he was
drawn into it as he believed it was the only way to save the nation after
the southern states declared their secession to the Union. In addition to
serving as president during the civil war and saving the Union, Lincoln
wrote the Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery in the U.S. forever.
He also wrote and gave The Gettysburg Address, memorializing the bloodiest
and most important battle of the Civil War. Gettysburg proved to be the
turning point of the war. Shortly after the war ended, Abraham Lincoln
became the first U.S. President to be assassinated. He was shot and mortally
wounded on Good Friday, April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's
Theatre.

aden + anais and the CJ Foundation for SIDS join hands
Plus a Giveaway for Awareness! SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) has
become a major topic, as it is the leading cause of death for infants
between 1 and 12 months (over 2,000 babies in the U.S., each year). It\'s a
sad reality that becomes the nightmare of any parent who has to mourn the
loss of their child from SIDS. More and more research is being done in this
area and now one of the leading risk factor is overheating. As parents and
caregivers, we are inclined to crank up the heat, place thick/plush
blankets, to keep our babies warm. However, now research is saying that
infants who are overdressed and or covered in heavy blankets are at a higher
risk for SIDS. To continue reading and to enter into the aden+anais cozy
sleeping bag giveaway at www.mommasinthehouse.com

Working?! Cannot fit SIGNING CLASS into your busy week ?
Finally, a Weekend Class:
Saturdays at 10:30am in Silver Lake
Give the gift of early communication to your baby, and begin the
unforgettable journey of understanding your infant's thoughts and needs.
Imagine increased imagination, less frustration, and an overall happier
baby. Did you know that if your baby is exposed to sign language, s/he will
learn to sign months before s/he will speak? An infant is limited in
his/her ability to communicate simply because his/her vocal chords are not
fully developed until s/he is nearly one year old. Sign language actually
promotes a greater bond between family members! Join the fun and begin the
joyful signing journey now.

and bring a new culture into your children's life!
Cultural Homestay International (www.chinet.org <http://www.chinet.org/> )
is a non-profit organization that works to promote international
understanding, friendship, and goodwill through placement of foreign
students into healthy family homes. This experience is a one-of-a-kind
opportunity for these high school students, and bonds are created between
the family and student that last a lifetime. Our family coordinators work
to find you the right fit for your family based on length of stay (1 or 2
school semesters), hobbies, interests, personality, etc. We also work with
the school counselor's to guide their academic progress; students become
part of your daily lives and your family gets to learn and grow from their
culture as well. There is no monetary compensation for becoming a host
family, it is through goodwill and for the benefit of the experience that
families choose to open their doors. If you would like to take part in this
