TODAY IN HISTORY
· DAYLIGHT SAVINGS - REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK AN HOUR THIS
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST.

appendix. (1926)
· Indian Prime Minister Indira Ghandi was assassinated. (1984)
· Halloween
An annual holiday celebrated on October 31st. It has roots in the Celtic
festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. It is largely
a secular celebration but some have expressed strong feelings about
perceived religious overtones. The day is often associated with orange and
black, and is strongly associated with symbols like the jack-o'-lantern.
Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and
attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted
attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

Halloween Tips from The Health And Human Services Dept
For more info, parents can visit www.foodsafety.gov
• Children shouldn’t snack while they’re out trick-or-treating. Urge your
children to wait until they get home and you have had a chance to inspect
the contents of their “goody bags.”
• To help prevent children from snacking, give them a light meal or snack
before they head out – don’t send them out on an empty stomach.
• Tell children not to accept – and especially not to eat – anything that
isn’t commercially wrapped.
• Inspect commercially wrapped treats for signs of tampering, such as an
unusual appearance or discoloration, tiny pinholes, or tears in wrappers.
Throw away anything that looks suspicious.
• Parents of very young children should remove any choking hazards such as
gum, peanuts, hard candies or small toys.

Disney’s A Christmas Carol, a multi-sensory thrill ride re-envisioned by
Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, captures the fantastical
essence of the classic Dickens tale in groundbreaking 3-D motion picture
event.
Ebenezer Scrooge (JIM CARREY) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual
miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (GARY OLDMAN) and his cheery
nephew (COLIN FIRTH). Scrooge later encounters the ghost of his dead
business partner Joseph Marley, who’s paying the price in the afterlife for
his own callousness. Marley hopes to help Scrooge avoid a similar fate and
tells him he will be visited by three spirits. But when the ghosts of
Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take Old Scrooge on an eye-opening
journey revealing he’s reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo
years of ill will before it’s too late.

Childrearing Q & A – Dr. Martha Erickson
I'm trying to raise my 2-and-a-half year old son to be non-violent, but
three times in the past month he's been bitten by another boy at day-care,
and I'm so angry I'm tempted to tell him to punch the other kid in the nose.
The daycare provider said my son's typical response is to look at the other
boy sternly and say, "biting is NOT okay!" That sounds cute, but if this
keeps up I'm afraid my boy is going to become an easy target for bullies.
Do you think I should toughen him up a little?
