Purim
Purim is a two day event beginning at sundown on the fourteenth day of Adar,
the twelve month of the Jewish calendar.
Every race and religion has their solemn and their festive holidays. Purim
is the most festive of the Jewish Holidays. Children dress in costumes and
people give gifts. Usually solemn synagogues are turned into festive arenas.
Children shake noise makers called "Graggers". The festive holiday centers
around Queen Esther, King Ahasuerus (or Achashverosh), Mordecahi and Haman.
The event took place in the Persian Empire in the fifth century, B.C. It is
a celebration of a major victory against oppression of the Jews at that
time.

Got a Two Year Old?
Jennifer from American Baby Magazine is looking for anecdotes for a piece
called "Why We Love Two-Year-Olds". If you have a
two-year-old, chances are you have some fun stories to tell! This piece will
touch on four areas of development--verbal, physical,
intellectual, or behavioral. Looking for... Verbally: Funny things he/she
said, his/her frustration when people don’t understand, what you've noticed
about his/her verbal development. Physically: Now that he/she is running and
climbing, any trouble he/she got into? Any new baby proofing required?
Covered in bruises and scrapes? Intellectually: How has he/she surprised you
by new skills? What
have you learned about him/her by listening in on play? Behaviorally: Any
terrible two anecdotes? Embarrassing play date
behavior? New fears? Got a kid who's suddenly so independent he/she won't
let you do anything for him/her? Email jen at jennifer-graham.com

Free Birthday Treats
Is your birthday is coming up? Check out Free Birthday Treats, a Web site
that lays out what you can get for free on your special day.
The site breaks the freebies down by adult, child, pets, and state. Perfect!
You can also search by type of freebie (travel, entertainment, food, and
retail). The online category does not seem to have any entries,
unfortunately. Adults in California, for instance, can get a free car wash
at 7 Flags, free skiing at Big Bear, and a lot of free food. If you know of
a deal that is not listed, add it here.
