American Red Cross, their standards are high and they require that all staff
have maximum certification and are passionate about teaching students. ASI
staff are professional educators with a minimum of a Bachelors within
Physical Education or have their teaching credentials within Elementary or
Middles school years. In addition to their liability insurance, ASI is one
of just a few schools in the L.A. area fully insured as an Aquatics
Management Company.

Missing Cat
Pomelo school district area in West Hills - missing June 5th.  Gray, looks
like a Russian Blue, yellow eyes and is missing fur on inside of legs. She

OTB is going to Belarus (Old Russia)
There, the owner, Octavia, work with high risk babies and children in an
asylum in Vesnova.  This humanitarian mission has been a long time coming,
as Octavia has attempted to go on three other separate occasions!!
Unexpected issues popped up each time preventing her from participating. The
entire mission is organized to help "the children of the children" who have
been affected by the Cherynobyl explosion.  Most children are confined to
their cribs, have little to no physical touch, mental stimulation, or
nurturing affection, and are living in less than desirable conditions -
mentally, emotionally and physically.  She hopes to bring them music, brain
stimulation, infant massage and all the happiness and wonder that OTB has to
offer!
Facts you may not know about the Chernobyl Disaster: 
.    Nine (9) million people were impacted by the nuclear disaster and over
half of them were children under the age of five years old.
.    The incidence of Thyroid Cancer is 10,000 higher than before the
disaster.
.    There is a recorded 250% increase of birth defects since the disaster.
.    Only 15% - 20% of the babies born in Belarus are born normal with no
defects.
.    The infant morbidity and mortality rate in Belarus is 300% higher than
anywhere else in Europe.
.    Six (6) million people still live in contaminated areas.
.    There are over 7,000 children on a waiting list to receive cardiac
surgery to repair their "Chernobyl Heart".  Most of them will die within the
next 2 - 5 years.
.    Levels of radiation after the explosion were recorded as far as Whales,
Sweden, Ireland, Greece and Alaska

An artist  - painter extraordinaire!!!
Nikki Friedman's husband Robb Friedman is an artist/painter.  He stunned
guests at her recent birthday party, when he presented her gift - a very

Dedications 2 Dads
While there are a variety of things you could give that special dad in your
life this Father's Day, a donation in your Dad's name is not only a

be well spent. There is a Los Angeles-based foundation, the Andre Sobel
River of Life Foundation, which is running a campaign for Father's Day
appropriately named Dedications 2 Dads. The organization provides 24-hour
relief to single caregivers to help them stay at the bedside of their
terminally-ill children. You cannot helped but be touched by the stories you
will read on the website. The Foundation was started by Valerie Sobel whose
son Andre was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at 17 after a
complaining of double vision. His young life ended when he was 19. She was
able to stay by his side to comfort him throughout his illness, but
discovered that many parents could not afford to do so. There are some very
easy and concrete ways to give that really would make a difference, like
cell phone minutes, a bag of groceries, or money for bus fare. We can all be
thankful for the dads and other special people in our lives that have taken
care of us. What a great way to show them thanks this Father's Day by making
a donation in their name that will help care for someone else.

Friends and Helpers
A non-profit foundation that offers assistance to unfortunate women and
children who find themselves victims of domestic violence.  The goal is to
support and encourage abused women, children and teens, all of whom are
trying to help get themselves out of violent,  hurtful situations.  We are
currently starting our Back-to-School program for the 2009-10 school year.
While it is not an option for these children to attend school unprepared,
they don't have the means to purchase the basic school supplies necessary
for a productive learning experience.  Please consider helping by purchasing
some school supplies for these needy children, at such places at the Dollar
Tree, 99 Cent Store, Target, Office Depot or other such stores.  Any amount
of supplies will be greatly appreciate, and you will be doing a wonderfully
good deed for these children who will be so greatly appreciative to simply
have pencils and erasers and crayons to start school with.  Supplies needed
include ruled notebook paper, spiral notebooks, glue sticks, rulers,
crayons, markers, scissors, folders, dividers, binders, pencils and pens,
pencil pouches, erasers and gift cards to Office Depot, Staples and
Michael's Art Supply.  Donations can be brought to the Tarzana Community
Center on August 14th from 9-3 when the backpacks will be filled and made
ready to distribute, or please contact deborahturobiner at aol.com to arrange
for a pick up of these supplies.

Conservation Tips
Watering your yard only before 8 a.m. to reduce evaporation and interference
from wind can save 25 gallons per day. 
Installing a smart sprinkler controller can save 40 gallons per day. 
If you use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks, you
can save 150 gallons each time. 
Checking your sprinkler system for leaks, overspray and broken sprinkler
heads can save 500 gallons a month. 
Mulch!  Save hundreds of gallons a year by using organic mulch around plants
to reduce evaporation. 
Plant flowers/trees/bushes that require less watering.  Select plants that
are appropriate for your local climate conditions. 
Use a shut-off nozzle on your hose. 
Raise the lawn mower blade to at least three inches.  A higher cut
encourages grass roots to grow deeper, shades the root system and holds soil
moisture better than a closely-clipped lawn.
