"Our newsletter host had a problem that caused many of you not to receive Jen's List yesterday or today, so I am sending them again. I apologize to those of you that are receiving this a second(or third) time"

Good morning(or afternoon/evening…whenever you are reading this)!
The costs of maintaining this ever growing site are adding up and I can't continue to incur the fees on my own. Some suggested annual membership dues - Others have suggested charging those who post. However, I feel that with both of those options, Jens List would be become just like all the other sites out there and I want it to remain unique!
The only alternative that I could think of was to ask for contributions, like KCET and NPR. Those that wanted to give could, and those that did not, would still be able to utilize the enormous amount of information on Jens List every day. If you feel as if the newsletter has helped you in any way, you have gained something from Jen's List and want to say "Thanks", you can make a contribution. You can use the link below & you do NOT need to have a PayPal account. There is no minimum amount necessary to give and please know, that from the bottom of my heart, everything and anything is truly appreciated. Today, next week, next month – if you would like to contribute, I thank you. http://www.jenlevinson.com/page_how_to_contribute.html

Play and Grow Smart-er Tips
“CREATIVITY” DEVELOPMENTAL SKILL DEFINITION: imagination, ingenuity, invention/originality, creative thinking; dramatic, visual and musical arts. Within “creativity” are 4 main areas: art, language, music/movement and fantasy.
THE CRITICAL WINDOW during which the circuits of the brain are being most heavily wired for CREATIVITY is 1 year old to 4 years old with lifelong expression. The more opportunity children have to experience healthy, positive and nurturing life skills experiences during these critical periods, the more efficiently their brains will work over the long run.
A Few DEVELOPMENTAL LEARNING TOOLS (toys and other objects) for Creativity:
• blocks • sandbox • art materials • music and instruments • dolls and stuffed animals
• water • play figures • construction sets • costumes and props • child-sized dishes and tools
Some general CREATIVITY tidbits:
• CREATIVITY MEANS having the power or quality to express yourself in your own way. Providing for intellectual growth, creativity allows world exploration through fresh, new eyes as children feel good about themselves through a sense of mastery and self-worth.
• IN THE 2ND and 3RD YEARS of life, imaginative play begins to make a break-through with pretend play, art, music, drama, writing and invention. Watch children’s faces as they discover play dough, their first doll or a feather boa, and it’s plain to see their desire to express themselves is emerging.
• IMAGINATIVE PLAY is the single most important activity for a preschool child.
• CREATIVITY can be enhanced by simple household items or anything that gives children a “blank slate” to let their minds roam.
• CHILDREN’S natural creativity reflects their feelings, emotions and imagination. They are not often as concerned with how things “really” are but with how they “think” things are.
Each of the next 4 weeks will focus on ART, LANGUAGE, MUSIC/MOVEMENT and FANTASY. Use Jenslist archive for Monday, Jan. 26 for the Development Skill Definition, Critical Window information and Developmental Learning Tools for Creativity.
Next week – “CREATIVITY: ART” Any ?’s – email Nancy Pyne-Hapke at msmarm at roadrunner.com

Recommendation for a Dog Trainer from a Jens List Member
"Aimee Burton of Karma Dog Training has been a life-saver during my pregnancy. We have attended her puppy kindergarten class, had her at the house for training, and she has taken Max and Murphy, our two 8 month old German Short-Haired Pointers, to the dog park and Runyon Canyon. We were worried about not being able to give the boys as much training and exercise as my pregnancy progressed, but Aimee has been invaluable in stepping in to assist with training and making sure they get plenty of socialization and exercise. We will definitely keep using her after our little boy is born and highly, highly recommend her and Karma Dog Training! Aimee can be reached at 800-479-DOGS and Karma Dog's website is <http://www.karmadogtraining.com> http://www.karmadogtraining.com
Pls. feel free to email me for a more detailed recommendation of Aimee: <mailto:cynthiaoleary at hotmail.com> cynthiaoleary at hotmail.com"

Healthy, Fit and Looking Fine Challenge 2009 - Last year, about 30 women took on the challenge to make healthy changes in their lives by eating better, losing weight and exercising more. This group of women also met a few times to discuss their personal experiences with weight loss and to get tips and ideas from each other to enhance their success. At the end of summer, about half of the women were still actively participating and they lost a total of 200+ lbs! The moderator lost 50 lbs last year. All you have to do is weigh yourself each week on Wed and send her your weight via email. She will calculate who the "Biggest Loser" is of the week based on % of weight lost. You will also try to meet occasionally for some face to face time and maybe with a personal trainer for some FREE tips on working out at home! If you are interested in joining in on this online support challenge - please email Nicole at nntrn at aol.com for more information!
