A warning from a Sergeant with the San Jose PD about your children and
Facebook
The brother of a Jens List member and also the father of two young boys, a
first grader and a 3 year old, yesterday on his older son's first day of
school, spoke to the parents about safety. One of the issues he mentioned
is Facebook. He cautioned parents to be vigilant about posting photos and
other information that could lead predators to your child. Do not post
pictures of your child's school name or address, do not post pictures of
sports teams with park names (Rancho Park Soccer or Toluca Lake Baseball) on
the uniforms, make sure any posted pictures never show your home address.
Do not post photos of your child in the bathtub or undressed. We have grown
to think of Facebook as our "own" and it is not. Even with privacy
protections in place, pedophiles can find and locate our children if they
want to. Do not give them a road map. So sad to think that we live in a
world where we have to think about things like this, but it is a reality and
something we have to remember.

Children's Social Skills and Anxiety Management Group:
An 8-week group for children ages 8 - 10 addressing anxiety and social
skills development. Goals include developing coping strategies for anxiety
in social situations and the classroom as well as enhancing self esteem
(e.g. building confidence in social settings, initiating conversations,
expressing anger appropriately, and making realistic evaluations of one's
own strengths and weaknesses in relation to school and peers).
Enhancing Self-Esteem for Girls Transitioning to Middle School:
An 8-week group counseling program for pre-teen girls who experience social
anxiety and low self esteem. Goals include building confidence, becoming
more assertive (e.g. asking for help from teachers or accessing resources),
friendship making, and anxiety reduction strategies.
