At the book store over the weekend, I came across 2 great books for kids
My Bag and Me!
It's the little things in life - like bringing a reusable shopping bag to the supermarket - that make a difference. Luckily, pint-sized shoppers get a kick from such cheap thrills. Save the planet, one bag at a time. This new children's board book, shows kids how easy it is to go green through the story of a boy grocery shopping with his mom. The book comes with a cute reusable (and recyclable) Tyrex bag for Earth-conscious kids to take along on their next trip to Target. Getting the baby to stop gnawing on the shopping cart is another story.

Did you know?
1. CA per pupil spending is around $1700 less per child than the national average. If we were funded merely at the national average, LVUSD would have $20,000,000.00 more dollars in its coffers. While CA spends $7,081 per student, our children's counterparts in New Jersey and New York, which rank 1st and 2nd respectively in per pupil spending, are getting $12,200 per student.
2. According to "Quality Counts 2008", issued by Editorial Projects in Education Research Center (www.edweek.org/rc), when compared to the rest of the nation, CA earned the following grades:
* Chance for Success: C
* K-12 Achievement: D
* Transitions and alignment: C-
* The teaching profession: C-
* School Finance: D+
Would you accept these grades from your kids? What you can do?
1. Attend the forum on April 2, 2008 at 4:30 pm at Thousand Oaks High School's Performing Art's Center. Everyone is strongly encouraged to attend: parents, students, family, friends and neighbors who don't even have kids in our schools but are concerned about the state jeopardizing our children's education. Superintendents from the five districts in the region (Las Virgenes, Oak Park, Moorpark, Conejo and Simi Valley) will discuss how the budget cuts will impact each of our districts. Our Governor, as well as state and local legislators have been invited. This is an opportunity for you to get information and voice your concerns. Please save the date now and watch for further information regarding carpooling to the event.
2. All LVUSD PFC presidents have sent letters to our legislators and governors stating their objections to the school budget cuts. At the April 2 rally, you will be given an opportunity to send written communication to your representatives. Your strongest voice however, will be your presence at this event. C.O.R.E. will be sending letters to editors of newspapers in our region and in Sacramento regarding the budget cut issue.
3. If you have media and celebrity contacts, we could use your help. Our Media Relations Chair, Cindy Goldstein is working on getting media attention for the April 2 forum. Please contact her at Gossip2me at aol.com.
And finally?
Our School Budget Crisis committee now has a name. C.O.R.E.:Californians Organized to Rescue Education. Ziona Friedlander(ziona88 at mac.com) and Penny Salomon (cvs619 at charter.net) are co-chairing the group. It is the goal of this organization to compel our state government to "Stop balancing the state's budget on the backs of our children's education." We have joined efforts with the 10,000 member Conejo Valley 12th council PTA to give our group a stronger voice in Sacramento. Now is the time to speak up and let your elected leaders know how you feel about further cuts to our schools. Be sure to join us on April 2!

Mobile Microdermabrasion
As seen on "Eye on LA," Mindy is very nice, an RN and very low pressure. She does not represent a product line, so no hard selling like a lot of estheticians. In fact, the dermatologist that she works for recommends Neutrogena and other brands readily available and not very expensive. She herself performs microdermabrasion and has slew of other services (all mobile) that she her associates perform, such as, hair cuts & coloring, massage, make-up application, manicures/pedicures. Also, if someone hosts a party at their home for 6 people or more, the hostess will receive a service for free. See the texture of the skin on your face change to be smoother, have no more breakouts, and see your fine lines disappear. www.peelsonwheelsla.com. Peels on Wheels has been featured in many publications. Mention Jens List and get 20% off your first mobile microdermabrasion service. (mother's day, girls night in, couples, father's day, etc etc.)
