Part-time instructor positions available
Pathway at UCLA Extension is a two-year certificate program for students with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, providing a blend of educational, social, and vocational experiences. They are actively seeking part time instructors for the following subjects:
Math Fundamentals & Life Skills:
Basic Life Skills
Based on the results of pre-administered skill-level assessments students participate in individualized classroom and home-based activities while learning how to manage money, use public transportation, take care of household chores, respond to emergencies, build and keep relationships, and practice healthy living.
Math Fundamentals
Students will learn the basics of consumer math ideas - how to use weights, measures, comparison shop, make correct change, and better understand math concepts needed in daily life.
The classes are intended to be very consumer oriented, with practical, real-life application. A lesson in math involving measurement, for example, might be applied by preparing a recipe that same evening. The instructors' individual strengths and experiences drive the specific course design for each of the classes, though they do have several program outcomes they focus on.
The students' literacy skills vary considerably, so they are looking for instructors who are able to address multiple learning styles, and who can adapt curriculum as needed. Flexibility, a sense of humor, patience, and a desire to be on the cutting edge of higher education are helpful qualities to possess if you are considering joining their team.
Here are a few additional nuts/bolts:
The courses take place during the daytime, and must start by 2:00 PM (ideally, though we do have some evening spots available).
Life skills will be taught this spring (April 1 - June 13), 3 days/week, for up to 1 ½ hours each class meeting. Available timeframes in which these classes may be taught are: M-F 8-9 AM, MWF 1-3 PM. Math Fundamentals will be taught this fall for 3 hours/week, either 2 or 3 days/week. 8 AM - 2 PM start times, M-F are currently available. They compensate $55/hour of instruction, plus $400 for course authorship/design fees. An assistant instructor will also be hired for each course. They receive $25/hour of instruction. If you have a specific assistant you wish to work with, please submit his/her resume along with your application materials. Courses are taught within UCLA Extension properties, located throughout Westwood Village (within walking distance of the main UCLA campus). Parking is not included; however instructors and/or their immediate family members are eligible to take free classes every quarter. There is a public structure on Broxton which grants 2 free hours of parking on weekdays. All qualified candidates must submit a current resume/CV, 3 letters of recommendation, and be prepared to submit a proposed course outline (upon request). If you (or anyone you know) are interested in being part of this unique opportunity, please contact: Laurie Firestone Siedelman, Program Manager, at lsiedelm at uclaextension.edu ASAP. To learn more about Pathway, please visit www.uclaextension.edu/pathway

Nanny Leads
We have to let my nanny, Stephanie, go because she can no longer work 5 days per week. She has been with us for 9 months now. She watched both my kids (ages 11 months and 3.5 years) for the last nine months and did housework as well. She is available Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Half day on Saturday. Please feel free to contact her at (818)605-3474.

AND
Our nanny/cleaning woman, Anita, has been with us for almost 6 years, and since we no longer need her full time, we are helping her to find part-time work in the valley area. She is available to work 3 days a week, possibly 4 days, and possibly weekend babysitting. Anita is the most honest, reliable, and pleasant woman we have had work in our home. She is a U.S. citizen and pays taxes. She speaks and understands most English. She does not drive, but she takes the bus to work most days and her husband usually picks her up (she lives in Reseda). She is a great housekeeper, but her real talent is caring for children. Although she is in her early 50's, she is very active and loves to play games with the kids, even hide and seek! She adores babies, and I wouldn't trust anyone more than her to love my kids as if they were her own. She is truly a gem. She even loves our dogs. If you or anyone you know is looking for a wonderful woman like Anita, please email or call me at: 818-219-9296. Thanks, -Jill Rosenberg
AND
Part-Time Nanny Available. My wonderful part-time nanny is looking for work on Mondays and Fridays. She has worked with us for over one year and has been fabulous with my now 16-month old. She commutes via public transportation from East LA, so she is looking for a family accessible by bus or Metro and preferably not too far west (i.e. Palisades is too far). Email me if you're interested and I'd love to share more glowing details! nicky.viola at gmail.com
AND
Full time housekeeper available - Ruth is one of the most trusting and honest housekeepers I've hired. She cleaned my house and helped me with the kids. She was very flexible when I needed her to stay late and babysit or come on weekends. She does not drive though and I need to find someone that can help me drive the kids. If this is not a requirement then I would recommend her fully. My number is 310-926-8887, her number is 323-681-4395, her English is not very good but you can call her sister Carmen at 310-426-7351.Thanks - Lisa lisa at televix.com
AND
My nanny's good friend Claudia Diaz is looking for another nanny job. She is CPR trained and she has extensive Child Development Education. She drives and speaks English. Her phone # is 818-430-0148. She is looking for $15 dollars an hour. If you have further questions you can call Carment Garcia @ 213-842-7115. I personally have not met this nanny, but I trust Carmen's recommendation. I trust her opinion as if she were my sister. Thanks, Michelle Carson michelleyamasaki at sbcglobal.net
AND
HOUSEKEEPER AND/OR NANNY AVAILABLE. Maria is wonderful. She helped us immensely with our twins until we sleep-trained them at 7 months. She is extremely trustworthy and pleasant. I can't say enough good things about her. She is also very flexible in terms of hours and helped me out many times on very short notice. She doesn't drive but is very familiar with the bus lines and can get pretty much anywhere. She is also available as a housekeeper. If you'd like more information, feel free to e-mail me: janehroot at aol.com
or you can call Maria directly: (323) 243-9543.
AND
One of the lead teachers at my daughters daycare (early education center) is looking for a family to work with, preferably with an
infant. She was my daughters primary caregiver while she was in the infant room and helped make the transition from being with mommy 24-7 to being at school much smoother than I expected. She is kind, loving and very hard working. Her duties at the daycare include planning
activities for all the infants (up to 18 months), making sure that each child is participating in all areas, and setting goals for all the children. She was great with my daughter and I am sure that any family would be lucky to have her. You can contact her directly between the hours of 5-7 pm M-F at 323-581-4568 and ask for Yolanda or email her at ygomez70 at sbcglobal.net . If you have any further questions, you can email me at drcorter at bactohealth.com
