An experience from a Jens List member that if she had not known CPR, the outcome would have been different:
1) When my kids go to another persons home, and I am not there, I make sure the parent knows CPR...Even kids who know how to swim, can knock their heads on the side of the pool or pass out. And again, even though an adult/babysitter is present.. And some parents are a little less vigilant than some, and might not watch the kids as closely, even though watching is still no guarantee, but minutes do make a difference...
2)Ask the parent how good of a swimmer their child is, no matter what their age. Because my 4 year old can swim really well, I assumed my 7 year old guest could also.
3)Post next to the phone, my neighbors and friends phone numbers who would be able to help.. My mind totally blanked beyond my husband, and I actually focused on my neighbors who moved away, when I had 5 people I could have callled.
Also, I used to let our teenage babysitters swim with my kids when I wasn't home, being my kids could swim... But due to my situation, to be honest, the level of stress I experienced topped with screaming children is something I would put money on that a teenager would NOT be able to handle in an emergency situation. Something to think about... All sitters really should be CPR trained. and retraining is something good to do. Stress brings on forgetfulness, panic and ability not to think. Some people even freeze. The more someone is familiar with somehting, the better they will be in repeating what they know.
Be prepared!! Because it CAN happen to anyone, whether we think it can or not! I hope everyone does not think the info is getting old...by me posting about it the past 3 days - the point was to actually make a statement and repetition usually helps!

Dana(list member) used Drivewise to lease a car & LOVED it!
Here is what she wrote about the experience:
"Adam Slovin, one of the owners, recommended cars I had not considered in the category in which I was looking. He gave me a ton of information about leasing versus buying - a real education - and I ended up feeling competent to make decisions in the context of an event - car leasing - where I usually just feel like someone who is ripe for the picking by unscrupulous dealers. Once I decided what I wanted, Adam researched what was available, got me GREAT terms on a lease for the car I chose, all the while indicating that I should feel no obligation to use his service if I could find something better somewhere else. He also looked at the car I had been leasing and advised what I should fix before turning it back, recommended a very competitive body shop for the repairs, arranged to bring the car to the body shop, and arranged a service to drive the car 75 miles away to the turn in site in Ventura - all at no charge to me. I drove my car to the office one day, and drove home in the new one. On top of all this, he made a donation to my favorite charity. What a gift. I thought your readers should know about it. They are in Tarzana at =818) 345-5555. Anyone on the list who wants to know more about my experience is welcome to contact

The year is 1907. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1907:
The average life expectancy was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !
The average wage in 1907 was 22 cents per hour.
The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME .
Ninety percent of all doctors had
NO COLLEGE EDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
Five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke
The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada, was only 30!!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write.
Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." (Shocking?)
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A.!
Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years

Long-Term Care insurance specialist
There is much concern today with the \"sandwich generation\". The sandwich generation is uniqueand it includes adult children making sure your aging parents are financially secure if the need for long-term care arises. The problem today is that the adult children are still raising their own children, planning for college and their own retirement. I counsel and help families with long-term care planning and financing.
