A letter from the Harper Family :
Dear friends,
The Malibu fire and the loss of our home and all that we owned was devastating. But, because of the care, generosity and love we received from each and every one of you who donated, we have been given strength and wonderful support to start again. My husband, four-year-old son, mother-in-law and myself thank you so much for your kindness and for reaching out to us. Many strangers sent us things and we are so grateful to you all. It has been a beacon of hope for us in this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything.
warmly,
Stacey, Brahm & Garen Harper
AND
Keri Stein was the first person to respond to the needs of my family and myself right after the Malibu fire that destroyed our homes and all that we owned. We were in shock, numb, disoriented. Keri moved fast by contacting Jen -- who is so wonderfully connected with her list, that shares such great information and helps so many. This powerful network not only helped my family and I, but allowed us to not feel alone and forgotten. It was a heart-lifting experience to see all the beautiful clothes, purses, shoes, etc. All of a sudden I was not wearing the smoke-filled clothes I had on the night I rushed out of my cottage, as I ran to my car through thick, dark smoke. To put on clean beautiful clothes was a tremendous gift. All the fantastic toys and books for my grandson brought him so much joy! Thank you Jen, and each and everyone one of you who so generously donated.
With gratitude,
Carol Snow (mother in law to Stacey Harper-Keri Stein's sister)

The Multicultural Learning Center
Sylvia Griffin is the proud parent of a bilingual 1st grader!!! Her daughter attends The Multicultural Learning Center(818-716-5783), a dual language immersion, k-8, public charter school located in The San Fernando Valley (Canoga Park). She onlys speaks English in her home and the decision to send her 1st child to a bilingual (spanish/english) school was a difficult one. But she knew that our world is expanding and that our children belong to a global community. She really wanted to prepare them to live in a world that values and appreciates all cultures and a great place to begin that journey is with language. Although the decision to send her daughter to MLC was a difficult one, she is so very happy that we did it!!! AND now she wants to do her part to see MLC become an inspiring representation of what we can achieve when we embrace our global community. If you or anyone you know may be interested in expanding their children's lives through language, please feel free to contact her directly about MLC. And if your group has 6-8 members interested in learning more about MLC, Gayle, the Program Director, may be able to set up an informational presentation at a playgroup or Moms meeting. http://www.mlccharter.org
