Tips on Trips and Camps - Summer Opportunities Fair
Jill Levin is an advisor with Tips on Trips and Camps, a free advisory service offering information on quality summer programs for students ages 8 to 18.  There is no charge to families for her services.  Tips on Trips and Camps has been in business since 1971, and they currently have a relationship with close to 600 camps and programs.  In addition to traditional and specialty camps, they represent programs offering community service, academic study, outdoor adventure, language immersion, internships and student travel.  Many families are aware of local traditional sleep-away camps but appreciate learning about other kinds of opportunities throughout both the United States and the world.  The company monitors the existing offerings and continuously looks to add additional programs that satisfy their criteria.  Their representatives visit programs during the summer to see them in session; they solicit feedback from families whose children have recently participated in a program; and they use that feedback, together with all of the other information they gather, when advising families.  And because of their rapport with program directors and the influence with parents, the directors look to them for feedback and guidance. After an initial telephone consultation or e-mail exchange, parents receive videos and DVDs appropriate to their child's summer interests.  Additional conversations can provide insights and distinctions between programs, enabling parents to make a selection.  
Every February Jill hosts a Summer Opportunities Fair in the Los Angeles area.  In 2007 over 300 students and their families attended and met with directors of approximately 40 camps and programs - NO DAY CAMPS.   This year the fair is held THIS SUNDAY (February 3rd) at Marymount High School from 11 am to 2 pm.

How to Talk to your Kids about Sex
The demand has been brought on by some of the young mothers who flit all over our television or movie screens. Dr. Nanci Hanover offers a course where parents can come together with their children and she will offer a short discussion on anatomy, the menstrual cycle, birth control types (includes abstinance, the pill, condoms, etc), and diseases. In between each topic is a short time that parents can discuss the topics with their children. She offers the stimulus and the parents now have the tools and time to talk things over with their kids. You can pick and choose your own dates at this unique summer camp, though a 5-day day minimum for the entire summer is required (they can be any 5 or more days you want, and the days need not be consecutive, so you can truly create your own schedule).
