Hello to everyone who has been so kind and generous to respond to my message on Jen's List:
I have to begin by saying thank you for all of your good thoughts, prayers and offers of donations to help Baby Edwin and his father.  I can not begin to tell you how overwhelmed Edwin's family and I have been by the response.  I have received emails from people all over LA, and even from someone in Australia who had been forwarded the message.  While the story of Mirna's death is tragic, the survival of her baby Edwin and the incredible outpouring of support from all of you brings a positive light to a horribly sad situation.  So far, we already have a crib, full size stroller, a lightweight stroller, an infant car seat, toddler car seat, bassinet, high chair, baby bath, & a swing.  A lot of people have also emailed me wanting to donate clothing.  Since there are a ton of people with clothing to donate, I would ask you to please only send Edwin's father clothing that is either like new or never worn.  While we so appreciate the offers of gently used sippy cups and bottles, since Edwin is a preemie, we can not accept offers of these types of used items.  The only big items left that I am hoping to find for Edwin's father are a comfortable, clean, gently used or new glider and a dresser with a changing top.  If anyone has either of these items, please email me again directly and put "glider" or "dresser" in the subject heading. For those of you that would like to donate money or a gift card to the family, I think gift cards from Target www.target.com, Babies R Us www.babiesrus.com, or Ralphs www.ralphs.com, would be most helpful.  Those stores all carry diapers, food, formula, baby bottles, baby items/essentials, etc. that Edwin's father is most likely to need in the coming months once Edwin is able to come home from the hospital.

Reports from Edwin's father are that the baby is doing okay and the doctors who are treating him are optimistic.  I will keep you all updated on his condition.  Edwin's dad thanks you all for your continued prayers. I am sorry not to be able to respond to you all individually, but the response has been tremendous!  I am reading all of your emails, though. We all know times are tough
SOVA, which operates a food bank on Vanowen in Van Nuys desperately needs donations. They also needs children's books and new diapers. Apparently, when families come to the food bank, the children take great comfort in the books in their library. The diapers don't need to be in the original packaging, as SOVA repackages them.
