SVF Mothers of Multiples Club is soliciting donations for the Annual Mother’s Day Brunch & Fundraiser
This special Celebration and Fundraiser, is being held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at The Braemar Country Club in Tarzana, California. Everyone loves the blankets and I think it would make a terrific prize! The San Fernando Valley Mothers of Multiples Club is a non-profit corporation, under the affiliation with the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Club. The club was established in 1956. It consists of over 150 women who have at least one set of multiple children (twins or triplets) and who reside primarily in the San Fernando Valley.
• They are a philanthropic, as well as a social and support group, with the emphasis primarily in the areas of women and children’s issues. These issues confront the community every day and often do not reach national prominence. They are vigilant in the dedication to them.
• The charities, which they support, include the Women’s Care Cottage and Haven Hills (shelters for homeless or abused women and their children), as well as, sponsoring members’ participation in walks benefiting organizations such as the March of Dimes, Breast Cancer Research and other pediatric charities. The Club also contributes to specific individuals in need such as recent fire and/or mudslide victims.
• They anticipate approximately 200 women in attendance including Mothers of Multiples and their guests.
The key to its success are the donations contributed by businesses. Companies such as The Walt Disney Company, Gelson’s, Carnival Cruise Lines, Starbucks, See’s Candies and many more contribute everything from merchandise, gift certificates, tickets to events and services.
• In return, your business receives prominent advertising in the newsletter, a link to the phone number or website on the website and at the event itself. The newsletter reaches over 200 families each month.
Thank you in advance for participating by donating a prize. All donations are tax deductible. The tax ID number is 20-1696035.
To make a donation, please email Terri Shundo at tshundo at socal.rr.com

L.A. Mama
EARTH DAY FUN: Goodbye, Tupperware parties. Today's stay-at-home moms meet for EcoMom parties, where hosts lecture on methods for composting, making a waste-free lunch and ridding the home of toxins. EcoMom Alliance founder Kimberly Pinkson wants EcoMom parties to become a part of wedding and baby showers, book clubs and even ladies' nights out: http://ecomomalliance.org.
VACCINES & AUTISM: Once considered a fringe viewpoint, the vaccine-autism connection is being taken more seriously since Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said she believes vaccines can trigger autism "in a vulnerable subset of children." April is National Autism Awareness Month, and a panel of experts discussed the developmental disability last week on "Larry King Live." Panelists included celebrity mom Jenny McCarthy, whose son, Evan, has autism.
GOOD GREEN FUN: Remember going to the beach and using a cut-off milk carton as a sand shovel? Now, a California company is recycling milk containers into some pretty cool toys. So far, there's a multicolored cooking set and a gardening kit. A tea set will debut next month. And, of course, there is a sand toy set: www.greentoys.com.
FIRST PREGNANT MAN? Last week, Oprah interviewed Thomas Beatie, a 34-year-old transgendered male who kept his female reproductive organs and is now with child. Beatie used a sperm bank and was artificially inseminated because his wife of five years is infertile. The couple is expecting a daughter in July. "I'm a person and I have the right to have my own biological child," Beatie told Oprah.
STOW THE CELL: Our lives are going to change July 1, when it will become illegal to use a traditional cell phone while driving. Violators will be subject to a $20 fine for the first offense, and $50 thereafter. While hands-free headsets will help busy moms who rely on drive time to make calls they can't make when kids are unrestrained, there's still the issue of text-messaging. Now, Mother Proof has compiled a list of services that use voice recognition technology that lets you text without typing. www.pinger.com; http://jott.com.
GRUNION RUN: Spring is here, and that's when the little silver fish come out to mate. The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro hosts bi-weekly events featuring an educational program followed by a guided walk on the beach to watch the fish make like the birds and the bees: www.cabrilloaq.org.

FREE web service that keeps you informed about your medications
Including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, nutritional supplements and herbal extracts. iGuard routinely checks the safety of your medicines, taking into account your illnesses and drug to drug interactions. The site closely monitors regulatory authorities such as the FDA, communications from pharmaceutical companies, and medical journals to identify safety information. iGuard is continually looking for new information on the safety of your medications, and will send a short email when relevant safety findings surface. For example - if you take Singular, a common prescription allergy medication - you would have received an alert that the FDA is investigating a possible link between the medication and suicidal thoughts. This is a great way to monitor your kids’ medications too. This service is entirely free, adheres to all HIPAA guidelines (I heard about it from my doctor) and your information will never be sold or transferred to a third-party. For more info and to sign up for iGuard Drug Safety Alerts - http://www.iguard.org/

American Idol Makeup Artist launches, ME by {Me}zhgan
A cosmetic line allowing woman and men at home to create the ordinary to extraordinary makeovers they see on television each week. Mezhgan is the face behind the scenes making celebrities and everyday people look flawless even in the critical eye of the high definition camera lens. The evolution of HDTV programs has changed makeup and the technique in which it is applied. Mezhgan has been the key makeup artist for American Idol since season 2 which has launched her to the forefront of this movement. This is conceptually evident in all the products in the Me by {Me}zhgan, cosmetic line. Mezhgan Hussainy is the creator and founder of ME by {Me}zhgan. Her work and cosmetic line has been viewed and admired by millions on American Idol, America’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, Family Feud, The Next Great American Band, and Red Carpet events to name a few. While working in the industry and on live televisions shows, Mezhgan recognized the need for products that are versatile and easy to use. She was inspired by the reaction to her transformations from both her clients and viewers. She decided to create a line of products that makes it easy to achieve the flawless look she was creating on television from home and successfully launched, Me by {Me}zhgan. "My goal was to develop products that allow women to show their faces, not their makeup", Mezhgan says. This has become the {Me} philosophy as many are beginning to discover. For years, Mezhgan mixed and matched products from various lines to help achieve a flawless perfection for her celebrity clients. She was inspired to create products that worked harder so she did not have to. The line contains a number of essential cosmetic products and accessories. The cosmetic product assortment is comprised of a primer/foundation duo, cream concealer/powder duo, multi-color blush, bronzers, eye shadows, eye liners, lip liners, lip glosses, mascaras, eye lash curler, and cosmetic brushes. In the midst of the events of September 11th, Mezhgan found great irony in the fact that she fled her country of Afghanistan to come to America when she was 8 yrs old and was truly living the American dream. She was making a living as a top Hollywood makeup artist, when the women in her country were not even allowed the thought of wearing makeup. It was then she decided to go forward with creating the makeup line and having a portion of the proceeds go to women and children in need. She established the Faraway Foundation in an effort to make a difference and give back . For more information on ME by Mezhgan, please visit www.mebymezhgan.com
