Desperately Seeking Cat Lovers
Can you help out a family that is relocating to London? The kitty's name is Simba and he's an orange and white 13-year old tabby. He's nearly 20 healthy pounds and now exclusively lives indoors. He's relatively active for his age, playful (small balls, strings and noisy paper), but as any cat-lover would know - he likes his privacy too. Plans for the kitty fell through recently but time is running out as the family is leaving next Tuesday April 8. He's a mature well-adjusted cat who knows his place the kids (18 month son routinely pulls his tail and bangs on his belly... but he also puts his head on the kitty's belly, kisses him and tells him "night-night"). Willing to cover his immediate costs for food and litter, but they leave him with much sadness. The kitty was their "child" before they had a child and their favorite love-words for their son were practiced on him. The famiy's parents would be willing to take him but they will not be available to do so until November, 2008, so if you also just want to "TRY OUT" having a pet, this would be a good situation. Can send pictures by request. Please email Ereyter1 at aol.com ASAP

TERRIFIC TASTY TIPS from Pampered Chef
Just a few ideas to simplify your cooking!!
To prevent boil overs, wipe a thin layer of shortening around the inside rim of your pot or saucepan.
Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. Keeps them smelling fresh.
If your brown sugar is hard, place a slice of bread in container to soften.
Place a few grains of rice in your salt and sugar shakers to absorb moisture.
Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to your dishwater. It cuts through grease and softens hands.
Use Life Savers to hold birthday candles on cake. They will keep candles upright and prevent wax from dripping onto the cake itself.
To keep eggs from cracking when hard-boiling them, add a pinch of salt to the water. Add a few drops of vinegar to make them easy to peel.
To prevent your Tupperware from staining, try spraying with cooking spray before filling with tomato based foods.
To remove the smell of onion and garlic from your hands, run something made of stainless steel between your hands under running water. The smell will disappear!
To seed a tomato, cut at the equator (across the middle), then squeeze, turn 1/4 turn, squeeze again.
Place your onion in the freezer 15 minutes before you chop. By doing this, you will be adding more flavor to your meals because the juice will stay within the onion.
Eggs laid in the Styrofoam carton and placed on side overnight, then boiled for deviled eggs, will make a perfectly centered yolks.
Pinch a Banana from the Bottom, not top, it will peel perfectly (monkey's do this)
Cilantro in vase w/ plastic over top and secured with a rubber band will stay fresh for 1 month
Use Carbonated soda can be used instead of lemon juice to prevent fruit from browning.
For Apples: Look at the bottom of an apple, if the blossom is "tight" it is a fresh apple, if blossom is open it is too old, don't buy it!
Two pennies in the bottom of a vase will keep tulips from going limp
Don't throw away those limp vegetables. You can refresh wilted or limp raw celery, carrots, cucumbers, and radishes by placing them in the Classic Batter Bowl filled with ice water for about half an hour.
Refresh dried out muffins by brushing them lightly with milk using the Pastry Brush and placing them in a warm over for 5-7 minutes.
When stir-frying meats in your Stir-Fry Skillet, use partially frozen meats to make it easier to thinly slice into strips.
For a quick, easy and delicious frosting, add maple syrup to confectioners' sugar, and stir until rich and thick. Spread on cakes, cookies, or buns.
To degrease cooled meat soups and stews, put a sheet of waxed paper or plastic wrap directly on top of the liquid before refrigerating. When you're ready to reheat, peel off the waxed paper, and the fat will come with it.

Yes folks, there is free food in the Valley- thanks to th agricultural past. In yards throughout the San Fernando Valley, you can see tree limbs full of oranges, grapefruit, tangerines and other citrus fruit looming over fences and rooftops. Often much of this fruit goes to waste because residents can't eat it all themselves or even give it all away. Citrus Sunday is a way to help solve this problem! In just 30 minutes, you can help provide free food to those who need it most: the over 150,000 people living in the San Fernando Valley everyday who are "food insecure" (a term used by a recent UCLA study to describe those who have to choose between eating nutritious meals and other essential expenses).
This is an easy servise opportunity for anyone & everyone to be a part of; it 's as easy as 1-2-3:
1. Pick the citrus fruit from the trees in your yard.
2. Put the washed fruit in plastic bags.
3. Drop it off at one of the Fire Stations in the Northwest Valley listed below.
(You can also help by telling others to pick citrus fruit from their yard, offering to pick fruit from other people's yards [with their permission], or organizing a "citrus drive" at a local school, at your workplace, or with a community group).
The following participating Fire Stations in the Northwest Valley will be accepting the citrus fruit on Sunday, April 6, between 9am and 3pm:
Lake Balboa: Station 100
Winnetka: Station 104
Sherman Oaks: Station 88
Encino: Station 83
West Hills: Station 106
Porter Ranch: Stations 8 & 28
Chatsworth: Stations 96 & 107
North Hills: Station 87
Granada Hills: Station 18
