Amazing cd for kids that parents will love
It features New Orleans best musicians playing kids music. It's fantastic and hopefully it will help these musicians who have been so devasted by Hurricane Katrina. In addition, it is produced by a mom! She had this vision about a year ago and never lost sight of her dream. She made it happen. www.funkykidzmusic.com

By far, My 2 1/2 yr. olds most favorite gift this season
The, phonics Laptop helps preschoolers build key academic skills like phonics, upper and lowercase letters, letter recognition and letter order. It comes with a pong game that adds to the fun. The Green backlit LCD display makes the screen interesting. It's a laptop just for kids-full of learning along with laughter! Discover letters and phonics, enjoy delightful games, explore cool mazes, play music, and make friends with a silly character. From beginners to advanced players, kids will have fun learning letters, phonics and mouse skills through various levels of game play. They can even check e-mail, hear music and sounds, enjoy exciting animation on the light-up screen, and discover fun surprises! My boys literally play with it ALL the time and can not get enough of it. A toy HIGHLY recommended!!!

Kimberly asked me to pass this along - Leslie Katab is a mom on the list and I know she would appreciate all the love and support available - read on:
(see attached for more info)
My friend Cliff Katab and his wife Leslie are in a dire situation. Their son Grayson, who is currently 22 months old, has an extremely rare type of childhood cancer called ATRT and Rhabdoid tumor. When first discovered, this tumor was located in his brain (ATRT) and kidney (rhabdoid tumor), and was completely removed from both places. Unfortunately, despite intensive subsequent treatment, the ATRT tumor has now started to re-grow in his brain. Because of the rarity of Grayson's cancer, there needs to be very specific research dedicated to better understanding and treating ATRT's and similar types of brain tumors, especially in young children like Grayson. Our challenge NOW...is to raise funds for this very specific research. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $150,000 for Grayson. The donations will be used for research that would take place directly under the care of Dr. Anat Epstein at The Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Program in the Division of Hematology Oncology at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Epstein is Grayson's doctor, and she is fully in charge of where these donations will be directed once submitted. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE EXTREMELY RARE OPPORTUNITIES IN LIFE TO DONATE MONEY DIRECTLY TO A FAMILY AND CHILD IN NEED OF SPECIAL ATTENTION. NOT ONLY CAN OUR GENEROUS DONATIONS HELP TO ADVANCE CHILDREN'S CANCER RESEARCH IN GENERAL....100% OF OUR DONATIONS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO LOS ANGELES CHILDREN'S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL SO THEY CAN SPONSOR A GRANT FOR GRAYSON'S DOCTOR TO HIRE A TECHNICIAN. THIS TECHNICIAN WILL BE SOLELY DEDICATED TO ANALYZING GRAYSON'S DAILY PROGRESS. AGAIN...THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO DIRECTLY AFFECT THE LIFE OF SOMEONE VERY DEAR TO OUR HEARTS. If you are on this email, consider yourself my very close friend, whereas I felt it appropriate to call on you in a time of need. I recognize that with this email I put each and every one of you on the spot, which is something I do not like doing or take lightly. For that, I apologize. Having said that, I think you all know me well enough to recognize I have never asked any of you for anything like this. THAT IS JUST HOW IMPORTANT THIS CAUSE IS TO US! In an attempt to "put my money where my mouth is".....Kimberly and I have decided to "Match" all of our friends donations to this more than worthy cause. FOR EVERY $1 ALL OF YOU DONATE(up to $5000) TO "GRAYSON'S GIFT"....WE WILL MATCH WITH A 100% DONATION FROM OUR FAMILY! FOR EVERY $1 ALL OF YOU DONATE(up to $10,000) TO "GRAYSON'S GIFT"....WE WILL MATCH WITH A 50% DONATION FROM OUR FAMILY! PLEASE HELP ME MEET OUR GROUP'S GOAL OF $150,000 IN DONATIONS TO "GRAYSON'S GIFT"....AND PLEASE HELP ME MEET MY FAMILY'S PERSONAL GOAL OF RAISING A MINIMUM OF $10,000 IN DONATIONS FOR LITTLE GRAYSON KATAB. As you open the attached brochure I implore you to please immediately take out your checkbook and send in your donation today! All donations are tax deductible...and again...YOUR EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS AS $1.50 - $2.00 BECAUSE OF MY PLEDGE TO MATCH YOUR DONATIONS! Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or if you need any more information. Grayson, The Katab's, and Kimberly & I thank you for your willingness to listen and help.
Sincerely, Eric & Kimberly Sassower - ksassower at sass-worldwide.com

"SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE!", the musical. What was "Schoolhouse Rock"? One of the select few television series ever to possess redeeming social value, it was comprised of fifty-one animated short films that combined cartoon animation with bouncy pop songs with remarkably infectious hooks that addictively entertained while simultaneously educating its audience on a wide variety of subjects, including mathematics, science, American history, civics and government and even progressive gender politics (via a segment on women's suffrage and the contributions of women). Despite being educational, it was, above all else, loads of fun! This innovative stage production, directed by the award-winning Mark Savage, brings the show into the 21st Century. The audience interaction, gadgetry, and video projection make this show totally fun and suitable for the entire family! www.schoolhouserockla.com

DAILY NEWS MOMSPACE COLUMN
MORMON NANNY WANTED: Being Mormon may not be the best thing for a presidential candidate. But belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a plus if you're a nanny. "All the LDS nannies have to have a recommendation from their bishop and they are strict about who they recommend," said Kari Shafer, the non-Mormon owner of Your Child's Nanny, an agency that pairs caregivers and families. Shafer said 90 percent of the requests for LDS nannies come from non-Mormon families and have helped boost traffic on the company's Web site, www.yourchildsnanny.com.
DADDY WARS: Remember "The Mommy Wars," the 2006 book about the face-off between working and stay-at-home moms? Now, some fathers have coined "The Daddy Wars" for the crusade they're waging to win more family time and flexible job conditions. "Just as we all fought for our right to party two decades ago, it's time to fight for our right to telecommute," Brian Reid writes on his blog, www.rebeldad.com.
TOXIC TOYS: Another week, another hilarious YouTube video. This one lampooning the massive toy recalls is sung to the tune of "Jingle Bells": "Toxic toys, toxic toys/make them go away/Please don't bring us toxic toys/this year on Christmas Day-ay."
www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIXGXyQ6L1Q.
BABY SWITCH: A San Fernando Valley mom tells blogger Jennifer Levinson that her video baby monitor picked up images of a different baby in a different location. "I was just curious and flipped our video monitor from A to B and thought it was strange to see a different view of our crib," the mom wrote. "After looking at it for a few minutes, I realized that it was another baby's crib." Summer, the manufacturer of the device, confirmed that signals can be picked up from neighboring monitors with a compatible megahertz frequency. Summer added, "If you can pick up someone else's picture, they can also see your video."

Renaissance Faire SoCal is now having their 50% off tickets sale
It's like a huge medieval village (great living history lesson) and almost EVERYONE is in costume. (Last year a great looking Jack Sparrow was walking around.) This is especially fun for boys who are into "knights." But girls would enjoy the spectacle and drama also. It is very hands-on and so much to see and do, you won't have time to see and do everything in one day. (In the past there was fencing lessons, stage shows, guild booths, with demos of glass-blowing and loom-weaving, & the "outrageous comedy show" (with tame potty humor) of Moonie & Broon http://tinyurl.com/2329ch. There were also 2 jousts. The Marketplace at the entrance is fun. In the past, you could bring in your own food & drinks. Though the website now says "sorry, no pets, outside food or beverages." For a limited time, 11/19/06 - 1/7/07, you can buy tickets for the Ren Fair half price! (Online only, it's easier to buy tix online and just hand them at the gate vs. waiting in line.)
