Second Phase III IVF clinical trial starting
Last year, HRC preformed 109 cycles of IVF for FREE looking at a new extended release IVF medication. They were the highest national and international enroller of patients and the successful completion of this trial has lead to another trial that is also providing basic IVF services for free looking at a Progesterone ring for supplementation for IVF. Patients will basically have to pay for ICSI (if needed), freezing if there are extra embryos, stimulation meds and other small odds and ends that are being worked out. Ultimately, the vast majority of the IVF cycle will be at no cost, if the criteria to be enrolled is met. The exact study criteria is still not 100% as the investigator's meeting is next month. Basically it is women 18-41, a normal body mass index and an FSH < 15 who need IVF. There are numerous other inclusion and exclusion criteria that be reviewed with patients at their consultation. Essentially, if one were to meet these criteria above, then, a consultation with should be set with HRC, after their consult will be plugged in with the study coordinator to sign consent and go over the blood work necessary to meet the inclusion criteria etc. This trial may be an excellent opportunity for them for someone needing IVF not covered by insurance. For more infomation, please contact Dr. Boostanfar's office at HRC 805.374.1737 - http://www.havingbabies.com/

147 S. Peck Dr. in Beverly Hills - (Behind Barneys - between Wilshire and Charleville)
Being an animal lover, I have to pass these along:
"My husband and I do rescue work & rescued an adorable, affectionate orange kitty off the streets. She must have been someone's kitten at one point (she's between 6 mos-1 year) because she could not be more affectionate, is not skittish at all. The issues are, she only has one eye. The other one is dead and needs to be removed, and we found a place who will do free surgery to remove it. So we will do that next week. But the other is that she is positive for the virus of felv, feline leukemia. She doesn't have the disease, but she will need to be an only cat in the household or with another cat who has it. Again, she doesn't have it, it just means that if she gets a cold that she will need to be treated right away so it doesn't get bad. And she will probably only live about 6 or 7 years. This little lady really is so sweet and needs a loving home. She will make the right family very happy. Please email Natasha Levinger at natashalevinger at gmail.com if you can help."
AND
"GOLDEN RETRIEVER/CHOW MIX - I AM YOUNG, MEDIUM SIZED AND SUPER CUTE, SUPER FRIENDLY, AND AFFECTIONATE!
My name is Norton and I was found as a stray by a rescuer who took me in until I can find my forever home. I am super cute and affectionate, have a reddish brown medium length coat and fluffy, curly tail. I am small to medium size weighing 45 lbs, am approximately 1 1/2 years old, and socialized to dogs and cats and really like all people and kids. I am pretty mellow tempered, but playful. I'm current on all my vaccines, neutered, microchipped and very healthy. I am very easy to walk on leash, like riding in the car, am housetrained, and learning basic obedience. If you'd like to arrange to meet me, please call Virginia at 213 810 0658 to schedule. There will be a standard application and small fee to go towards my expenses."

Weekly Momspace column that comes out every Thursday in the Daily News
THE ICE CREAM DIET: A serving of full-fat ice cream a day not only delights the palate but appears to boost fertility, according to a new book from the Harvard School of Public Health. "The Fertility Diet" says "good" carbs like brown rice and pasta are linked to higher fertility levels, while cold cereal, white rice, potatoes and other "bad" carbs are linked to infertility. Also, that old wives' tale about eliminating exercise to get pregnant? It's a myth (but you already knew that). See www.thefertilitydiet.com.
MYSPACE WITH TRAINING WHEELS: Imbee.com (for in-between?) claims to be the first free social network for kids ages 8 to 14. It's the picture of innocence, with links to videos of a Build-A-Bear Workshop and scenes from the animal kingdom. But its emphasis on celebrity - Hilary Duff is the topic of one dedicated online group - may be a turnoff to some parents.
EBAY FOR PARENTS: File this one in the category of brilliant ideas I wish I'd had. It's called Zwaggle.com and it's basically eBay without any purchase prices, targeted at parents with too much outgrown kid stuff. Zwaggle users earn points for shipping their stuff to someone who wants it, then use those points to redeem stuff they do need or want. The only money that changes hands is for shipping. It sounds crazy, but the highchairs, baby swings and toys that your child drooled on, pooped on, played with, bit and laughed at are saturated in sentimental value, and it's hard to just leave them on the sidewalk outside a secondhand store. I love this idea of finding loving homes for well-used baby gear.
NANNY CAUGHT ON TAPE: Ouch. This nanny got caught on tape getting abusive when one of her 2-year-old twin charges resisted going down for her nap. Angry dad Brad Roth started NannyAbuse.com to create a forum for parents to get more information. Watch this clip from NBC: http://video.knbc.com/player/?id=192803. Be sure to catch two other inventive nanny watch sites I wrote about last month: www.LAnannywatch.blogspot.com/ and www.ISawYourNanny.blogspot.com.
TOYS AND GENDER: The ladies of "The View" had a fascinating discussion last week about giving feminine toys to boys and masculine toys to girls. That line of talk disintegrated into a shoutfest about children with transgender tendencies, but it brought up some interesting topics. Whoopi and Sherri Shepard really get into over whether a boy should be allowed to dress up in princess garb. See the clip at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=78ND3vqPz90
